The Preserve is a
multi-occupancy apartment building in a reclaimed industrial section of
New Orleans
,
LA.
The project is part of an area-wide rehabilitation effort following the
devastation in the area from Hurricane Katrina in August of 2005. This
project site is located in very close proximity to two
intersecting/overlapping elevated highways and a passenger railway. In
addition to review of typical residential acoustical details such as
demising construction acoustical ratings, this project included a
comprehensive noise survey in the area to assess exterior noise levels
and acoustical performance requirements of building core/shell
construction (walls, windows, etc.). Architect:
Humphrey & Partners
Architects. |

The Arlington ECC is an emergency operations center to the Arlington Police
Department. The facility is the new 911 center and features re-use of an
existing floor of the police department building. The design challenges of the
space included confidential level of privacy between a glass conference room
overlooking the dispatch floor, very limited floor-to-ceiling height, and
workstation density in terms of speech privacy between dispatch desks. The
design included a highly-absorptive ceiling with undulating curved perforated
metal panels, wall treatments on available surfaces, and the use of fabric duct
for quiet air distribution. Architect: Becker Morgan Group
